Gora
Wilderness
Foundation

In the vast landscape of the Garden Route and Little Karoo, the Gora Wilderness Foundation is weaving a tapestry of isolated remnant wilderness areas into a single ecological unit to restore the ancient elephant migration routes from the Cape’s verdant shores along the Indian Ocean to the semi-arid plains of the Little Karoo hinterland.

The Gora Wilderness Foundation, registered as an Non-Profit Company, is the non-profit initiative at the forefront of the visionary movement that seeks to unite both private and public properties and nature reserves in a common cause: the creation of wildlife corridors that forge and establish an interconnected wilderness area that resonates to the ancient rhythm of Africa.

To A Big Vision

The journey to a big conservation vision of a restored Gora Wilderness where an expansive reserve serves as a sanctuary for a myriad of biodiversity is comprised of many small, seemingly insignificant individual steps. The road to this vision, aiming towards a wilderness reserve that again allows for seasonal migration of wildlife between the winter rains in the west and the summer rains in the east, is paved in many individual aspects, each of which allows for your participation. So explore our exhilarating world of rewilding conservation and discover your part in the narrative of breathing life into the Gora Wilderness Reserve.

The big vision of the Gora Wilderness Reserve is to establish a connected protected area that spans across an area of 1,100,000 hectares of Little Karoo and Garden Route wilderness. Areas in green are already formally protected, while the areas in between are waiting to the connected and restored to the ancient rhythm of Africa.
